Can you believe it? We’re finally about to say good bye to the year 2020.
Less than 11 days from today we will officially welcome the new year. You’re welcome to breathe a sigh of relief with me at this moment.
Now, 2020 was a tough year in some way or other for most of us. From the uncertainty and anxiety to the loss and having to start over in many instances – the unpleasant experiences that many of us went through are definitely not to be taken lightly. It has not been easy.
On the other hand, however, this year held many valuable lessons for us. One of the most important things it taught us was how to separate the wheat from the chaff. We learnt about priorities, which friends were to be treasured, whether we wanted to continue living our lives in the same way that we had been doing so all along. We were reminded of the fragility of life and the importance of making the most of every experience. We now appreciate the little things more than we did before.
My personal favourite observation during the pandemic was seeing the number of dormant dreams that came to life at a time when the world was seemingly coming to an end.
It has been tough but even when it didn’t feel like it, we proved to be tougher, even when that was proved through just making it to the end alive.
As we anticipate the new year, here are a few suggestions on questions we can ask ourselves while reflecting on this chapter of our lives that we are about to close:
· What am I most grateful for this year?
· In what ways did I become a better person?
· In what way did I learn to become a better person for those who are closest to me?
· What did the way I handled the uncertainty and tougher periods teach me about myself?
· Was I intentional about changing the quality of my relationships for the better?
· Bearing in mind the fact that tomorrow is not guaranteed, am I still happy with the life I am living? What can I change about it?
· What was my greatest achievement during the last period?
· In what way did my spiritual life and relationship with God improve?
Whether you choose to journal these or browse through them mentally is completely up to you. I do hope that you will be encouraged to further process this year in order to mentally prepare for 2021.
This coming Sunday we will be looking at an 8-dimensional approach to coming up with resolutions for the upcoming year. In the meantime, do make the most of the remainder of the festive season with those that matter most.
Wishing you a Merry Christmas in advance
